I am more than a bit skeptical about companies that think they can go head to head with iTunes and then when a company wants to add an MLM compenent into the mix, I get downright scared.
I have seen this before.
A couple of years ago, a company called
DVD Monster launched into the DVD sales and rental business, with a binary MLM compensation plan. They lasted less than a year.
Gold Entertainment attempted to get into the same arena and failed as well.
Neither of the companies could compete head to head with Netflix, add on MLM compensation and they were doomed.
So when company's like
BurnLounge (MultiLeveler Profile coming soon) come out and basically attempt to go head to head with iTunes, I cringe.
However,
Weed seems a bit different. The MLM component of Weed is almost an afterthought as they look to truly monetinize the viral aspect of sharing music.
eMediaWire:
Jason Peterson, founder and president of the GoDigital group of companies adds, “our intent with this partnership is to introduce Master P and Romeo Weed files into all of the peer to peer networks, including BitTorrent, eDonkey, Gnutella, Limewire, Kazaa and Morpheus, with the goal of creating a new link in the value chain for recorded music.” Jason continues, “the Weed format is exceptional for two reasons. First, it can be sent from one person to the next via any available method, be it P2P, Skype, IM, email etc, and the recipient has the chance to purchase the file should they want to own it. Second, there is an MLM component that pays the sender and the sender’s sender up to 35% of the purchase price! Everybody wins up to three generations back. If we as a record community monetize one percent of transactions on peer to peer networks it would be equivalent to a whole new iTunes.”
Watch for an in depth profile of Weed soon. They happen to be a local company (to me).
