Here is the letter that explains the rational and timeline:
To help simplify and streamline the business, Quixtar will be phasing out the Member category beginning June 15, 2006.
On a secondary but related note, we will begin to transition from the current term “Client” to the more common term “Customer.”
The result of these two changes? As of June 15, 2006, Quixtar will no longer be accepting Member registrations. Now, IBOs will have one Customer category that includes currently active Members and Clients.
Key transition points (see time table below):
Client will change to Customer: As we phase out the Member category, we also will be changing the name “Client” to “Customer.” This will leave two simple registration options – IBO and Customer.
Saving existing Member volume: Quixtar will automatically convert all of your existing Members to the Customer category. As a “Customer,” they will no longer need to renew annually and they can continue to use their current ID number to place orders.
Extending Member benefits: To honour our current contracts with your existing Members converted to Customers, we will extend to these individuals IBO pricing, Network Savings benefits, and any seasonal catalogues for which they qualify for one year following notification of their status change.
Elimination of Q-CREDITS® Points: Due to low participation, the Member Q-CREDITS program will be phased out along with the Member category. The portion of awarded PV/BV from Member purchases at Partner Stores & Services that is currently set aside to fund this program will be reverted to IBOs.
New! Customer pricing options: You will be able to indicate whether Quixtar should charge each of your Customers IBO cost or suggested retail. Quixtar will automatically charge newly registered Customers suggested retail pricing unless you indicate otherwise through the Customer flag in your LOS tree. (Note that the converted Members’ pricing will be “locked” at IBO cost through the duration of their Member benefits extension.)
